Kaiju - Narrative
The following is an account from one of the Narrative Leads, Devon Stewart looking back on the semester.
Narrative Team: Leads: Devon Stewart & Allen Jay Villena
Members: Buddy Casiles, Jessica Isabel Salgado Delgado, Calla Delos Reyes
The writing side of Kaiju Delivery Service was interesting. During pitch day, when I heard Allen’s idea of “Kaiju Delivery Service,” I had a feeling almost instantly that it was going to be the winner. The concept was not only strong, but unique. I could tell the club members loved it and were excited to work on it. As it was his concept, Allen came on as the co-narrative lead. As artists, we can get very attached to our ideas and sometimes it can be hard to deviate from the vision in your head. However, Allen was incredibly pleasant to work with. He was happy to have us help his concept come to fruition and take ideas and suggestions from not only his team members, but from the other AFPA teams. Despite varying degrees of experience with writing, I was fortunate to co-lead a team that was incredibly enthusiastic. They were willing to not only learn, but consistently came to the meetings, and readily gave their suggestions and ideas to create a solid story. Full page television scripts tend to take on average about three months to write. However, despite school and work obligations, the team managed to write out a Pilot script in just about two months’ time. While we had hoped to finish at least three written episodes in the Fall 2020 semester, life, as usual, got in the way. Despite falling a bit short of our hoped-for goal, we still wrote what I feel to be a solid script and story.
All members of the team had ideas or feedback that made it into the Pilot script, so I hope they are proud of the work they did, because they deserve to be. I look forward to continuing to work with them to help contribute to AFPA in 2021.
