Kaiju - Animation

Animation Lead - Sophia Struna

Team Members:

Andres Cordova

Personally I've always had a soft spot for animation. We hear it time and again, that animation brings life to the worlds and characters that we create, putting in motion the things we always imagined our creation to act like. Though animation is in some ways simply an illusion of motion, there is a very real fuel of personality that comes from the artist themselves. Motion is the illusion, but the reality is that what we see on screen is the culmination of the creativity and humanity of the animators who worked on it.

Anyways, I suppose that's a nice way of saying that we love animation for what it makes us feel, and even in the rough tests and passes, we are always looking for those feelings. Our animation team this time around was significantly smaller than last time, in part also to do with the different goals of the project. The project this time being more episodic allowed for more room for creativity for writing, though animation requires a lot of processes to be fulfilled in advance to even begin. That being said, there is not a lot of work this time around for this phase of the project, though there was definitely some recognizable effort displayed by our relatively small team.

In a bit of unusual circumstances, our current animation lead, Sophia Struna, took the charge later on in the project. Members were already fairly low, but Sophia rose to the occasion nonetheless to keep the fie burning.

"I believe that seeing the amazing and comical characters that AFPA's narrative and character design teams have imaged fully realized with all the special effects and visual gags they deserve will be well worth spending the time to animate them and more."

- Sophia

She stayed positive and stuck with us even though things weren't ideal, and we have a lot of respect for the time she gave to the project. There may not be a lot of work right now, but we're confidant in promise for this new semester.
